A first glance at Fansipan trekking activity

Who has gone trekking up Mt. Fansipan would recommend you to take the challenge on days in December. It is supposed to be cool and a little bit rainy in December in Sapa and Fansipan (in comparision with November’s weather there). December in Sapa starts out somehow dry and grows wet when the last days of the month come. You can expect the fog and the average temperature falls in the range of 8-10 degree Celcius. The monsoon arrival will bring the temperature lower. The rainfall volume is 50mm.
                                                                               The Roof of Indochina
At 3,143 metres Mt. Fansipan is Vietnam‘s highest mountain. Although only 9 km from Sapa town, it takes at least three days to get to the peak and back. The top is accessible year-round to anybody, so long as they are in good shape. As there are simple mountain huts on the way, tents and sleeping bags are provided.
You wish to conquer the highest peak, you better be in good shape and properly equipped with necessities such as waterproof tents, food , stove, raincoat, compass and other miscellaneous survival gear.
You can make your choice on the amount of time you would like to spend on your trip at Mt Fansipan: one, two, three or even longer since the trek can be arranged based on your trip length and budget.
The overnight trek starts with a car transfer from Sapa town up to the Tram Ton, the Heaven’s Gate. The uphill drive takes about one hour before you get into the Hoang Lien Nature Reserve. From there you follow a small hiking trail, hiking in the jungle until you arrive at the height of 2900m altitude where you stop for overnight. The second day, you continue hiking up to the summit of Fansipan where you will spend some time to celebrate the victory before taking the same hiking trail to get back to the entrance of the Hoang Lien National park. There you  will be picked up by your vehicle and transferred back to Sapa town.
The second Fansipan trek is also the most popular Fansipan trekking tour which takes 3 days. This trek is more challenging. You begin your adventure from Sapa, hiking through H’mong villages before entering the Hoang Lien National Park. You will reach the summit on the second day. After reaching the top, you trek back towards Sapa town taking another hiking trail. You arrive back Sapa town on third day. There is no support vehicle for this option.

Sandals are not appropriate footwear for slippery, muddy rock climbing…
The four-day tour is less challenging than the three-day trek as you take another hiking trails where there is less up and downhill climbs. Taking this option, you firstly sneak through local Black H’mong and Red Dzao villages, spend two night in camping tent before you get to the summit of the Indochina, Fansipan mountain. You take another hiking trail to get back to Sapa town.
At Lotussia Travel all Fansipan trekking tours are provided with English-speaking tour guide, camping tents, food, drinking water, sleeping bags, waterproof blue bags and the trek permit. You just need to bring your personal luggage during the hike. Contact your travel consultant for more information about what you should bring on a trek to Fansipan mountain.

Up and downhill climbs should be expected on day three of the trip
Trekking Fansipan mountain is not an easy activity. The Fansipan trekking tours are not designed for everyone. Trekkers are required to have a good health. A mountain climb lasting for three days requires participants a good health. Hence, designing an exercise routine and starting training several months before the climb is a must. Climbing shoes, raincoat, medical bag, water, sleeping bag, camp, and some sweet candies (help raising blood sugar level, and enhancing breathing when climbing too high) are indispensable things. A tip to avoid high-altitude sickness chewing hard candy, breathing through a face mask and drink plenty of water.
