Vietnamese Women’s Day

In addition to the International Women’s Day on March 8th, Vietnamese girls and women also have another very own occasion of the National Women’s Day or commonly known as Vietnamese Women’s Day. It’s annually held on October 20th as a great chance for society to show the respect and great love to all of Vietnamese women as well as honor their role of in the community.


Origin of the day



Back to the date of Oct 20th, 1930 as Vietnam Anti-imperialist Women Association of (now known as Vietnamese Women Association) was officially established, the Vietnamese Communist Party designated this day to become not only the anniversary of the organization, but also a mark of honor to Vietnamese women. Since then, the Vietnamese Women’s Day has been considered one of important occasions, which is grandly celebrated all over the country every year.

Definitely, Oct 20th is nothing but a great chance for Vietnamese men to sincerely show up their love to the women around like the mom, sister, wife, friends, colleagues, etc. Especially, for anyone being in love, this day is like another Valentine Day. Beautiful bunches of flowers, meaningful gifts, and greeting cards with best wishes are among popular presents that the men often give to their sweetheart on this day. For married couples, the husbands choose to get into the kitchen and make special dishes for their women or take the whole family to eat out. They are also in charge of the housework with the aim of giving a completely free day of doing the chores to their beloved women.
Vietnamese Women’s Day is also celebrated all around the country as a national occasion with a lot of public activities, together with banners and flowers found at every corner of big cities. They all serve the purpose of greatly honoring and raising public awareness about enormous contribution and devotion of Vietnamese women to the development of the country.
