Opposite the church gate (currently is Hoang Van Thu street) is School Field Saint Dominique (now is Dinh Tien Hoang primary schools). The best works originally called Mission (Nha Chung Street). In 1954 was renamed Dac Lo street. Currently, the street has name is Pham Ba Truc- the name of a priest, a monk true patriot, with the laity involved mobilizing national liberation career.
After Hai phong cathedral was inaugurated, through many time changes, the church deteriorated, damaged. In 2000, Catholic priest Nguyen Van Hien has applied for renovation, repair, upgrade the entire interior church and preserved as ancient architecture. Until now, the cathedral, the bell tower, the campus has been renovated and repaired synchronously. This is one of the large and beautiful church of Hong Bang District, Hai Phong City. In Christmas holidays, Easter, and other important holidays, parishioners eagerly to cathedral.
Besides significant religious activities, Hai Phong Large church is also the venue for cultural activities imbued with solidarity and charitable activities to help the poor, disabled children, lonely elder.
