HISTORY AND LEGEND

In Lac Duong commune, Dalat city, there exists a majestic and beautiful mountain called Langbiang – the roof of the city. Langbiang Mountain consists of three major peaks of Ba Mountain (2,167 meters in height), Ong Mountain (2,124 meters in height), and Rada Mountain (1,929 meters in height).
The name of Langbiang comes from a folk tale. Legend has it that there was a boy called K’lang and a girl named H’biang who came from the two different tribes. They felt passionately in love with each other. However, they were not allowed to marry because of the feud between the two tribes. K’lang and H’biang broke all strict customs to get married then fled to a place in the top of the mountain to live. When H’biang caught a serious illness, K’lang tried in vain to cure his wife. Then he decided to come back to the village in search of help from H’biang tribesman but they intended to kill him with a poisoned arrow. H’biang shielded her husband from the arrow then she died. Feeling deeply desperate for such loss, K’lang bitterly cried a lot until he died. His tears made up a big stream which is now called a Golden Stream.
