Approximately, this place is home to more than 5,000 herons and 15,000 storks of various species like fiery storks, grey storks, cattle egrets, and the others. Despite the name of “Stock Island”, the island’s inhabitants also comprise a lot of aquatic creatures, plants, and birds with more than 170 fauna and flora species, even including some precious and valuable ones which are listed in the Red Book of Vietnam. Annually, as the north-east monsoon season starts in the 9th lunar month, there are always thousands of herons, birds, and stocks from other places gathering on Stock Island to build nest, find food, lay eggs as well as nurse their babies. The monsoon season in the North often lasts until the 4th lunar month of the following year and it’s also the leaving time of those flying species.
