The thrilling steep path of Ma Pi Leng
Ma Pi Leng’s Path is a part of Happy Street that connects Ha Giang city, Dong Van and Meo Vac town. The Happy Path was built in a period of 1950 to 1965 by the amazing powers of thousands of people from 16 ethnic minorities.

The road passing Ma Pi Leng was then built by volunteers hanging up on rock cliffs by rope and encroaching every centimeter over 11 months. They made this road entirely by bare hands and rudimental means such as crowbars, shovels. A cemetery was established for those who courageously sacrificed to build the road.

It was, at first, wide enough for a horse-drawn cart and pedestrians then gradually upgraded and widened for cars. This breathtaking pass has also become one of the hottest spots for young backpackers.
