Construction process
In honor of his huge dedication for the country and for the love of all Vietnamese for Ho Chi Minh, the successor Communist Government decided to keep his body so that He can see the whole country’s reunion, and the following generations can come and visit him. Accordingly, on September 2nd, 1973, his mausoleum started to be built in Ba Dinh Square, where He read the Independence Declaration on September 2nd, 1945, establishing the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.
Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum is an important historical attraction of Hanoi, where visitors can express their admiration and gratitude towards the Father of the Vietnamese who has led the country to independence and reunification.
The structure is 21.6 metres (70.9 feet) high and 41.2 metres (135.2 feet) wide. Flanking the mausoleum are two platforms with seven steps for parade viewing. The plaza in front of the mausoleum is divided into 240 green squares separated by pathways. The gardens surrounding the mausoleum have nearly 250 different species of plants and flowers, all from different regions of Vietnam.
The embalmed body of Ho Chi Minh is preserved in the cooled, central hall of the mausoleum, which is protected by a military honor guard. The body lies in a glass case with dim light.
