Ham Long Church
There are three major churches within Hanoi region including Cua Bac church, St. Joseph Cathedral and Ham Long church. Ham Long church goes in the first place in the list for its unique design of a Roman Catholic church sketched by a Vietnamese architect. The church is not famous for a long history since it was constructed at the end of the 19th century, yet possesses a peaceful atmosphere that you would love to enjoy after a tour day around the neighborhood. The 17m high church was completed in December 1934. The columns and altars are decorated with rope motifs like those on the tunic of the Francis order. The church’s patron saint is St. Anthony of Padua.
Ha Noi Cathedral
Cathedral is located on Nha Chung street, the residential area of the city, where the religious rituals take place. Large sanctuary belonging to the church is considered one of the most ancient and beautiful place of Viet Nam. Sanctuary zones carved with wooden flowers and the window sections are fitted with stained glass paintings.
The Catholic Church had the church built of brick with a budget of about 200,000 Francs. The construction lasted from 1884 to 1888.
Cua Bac Cathedral
Cua Bac Cathedral, one of the most charming churches in Ha Noi, is located in Ba Dinh District. The church was built in 1932 by the French priest cum architect, who had combined the Asian – European style into the design of the church. It does not follow the rules of symmetry, with a high bell tower on the right and in balance with the central dome.
The Cua Bac Cathedral is not only a religious address but also an architectural work with many spectacular features.
In November, 2006, the Cua Bac Catholic Church became the venue of joint worship service of the Vietnamese Catholics and Protestants with participation of the United States President George W. Bush, who was on an official visit to Viet Nam.
Phung Khoang Church
The church is based in Phung Khoang village in Trung Van commune, Tu Liem district, Ha Noi, close to Ha Noi – Ha Dong route, about 10 km from the Sword Lake. The church was built in 1910 within the style design of French neoclassical architecture.
Thinh Liet Church
It is also known as the Lang Tam or Thinh Liet Church. Buildings were built in 1911 on a wide area, spacious located in Thinh Liet village, Hai Ba Trung district. This is a famous family that contributed many important figures for the Vietnamese dynasties from the early 15th century to the early 20th century, as well as many famous writers for Viet Nam during the five centuries.
King Le Hien Tong formally granted this family with a horizontal lacquered board with four letters “Son Nam Vong Toc” (A honorable family in Son Nam).
The church was built on the ground of the family temple of the Bui family.
