Hue people usually call Notre Dame of Perpetual Help Church is the Savior. In fact, the church of Savior is the name of congregation church built from 1928, while the church of Notre Dame of Perpetual Help was designed by Nguyen My Loc Architect and built during 3 years, from 1959 to 1962.
Today, the church is located on Phu Nhuan Ward, Hue City. Cathedral campus is large and triangular. The peak is assigned of the crossroads of Nguyen Hue and Nguyen Khuyen street. If you go on the Nguyen Hue road from An Cuu, you will see the image of Jesus putting the loving arms to welcome all living creatures. Behind, in the corner of the church campus of Nguyen Khuyen road is the cave of Notre Dame giving birth – the Princess Baby. The main material to build this cathedral is concrete and green stone, terracotta roof.
The roof of Notre Dame of Perpetual Help is in 32m high. In the center of the cathedral is a bell tower. This bell tower has three floors and an octagonal containing the cross. There are four large bronze bells in 1.5 tons weight and controlled by electrical system. With a folding staircase in the corner, people can climb the 53 -meter high bell tower for a panoramic view of the southern side of Hue.
The corridor is in 26m long and 4.2 m wide. The sanctuary is 8.5m deep and the main altar was made of marble explored from Ngu Hanh Son mountain with the size of 3.6 x 1.2 x 0,29m. Besides, there are 2 small altars made of this precious stone.
The special architecture of the cathedral is the wide doors and no bulkhead. The porch is large so many people can feel that they are in cathedral while they are standing in the porch.
The church is very majestic but the interior is completely lack of pillar dividing space. Arch system from the wall to the roof creates a large, monumental, majestic space to see themselves small before the God. The Cathedral is in 38 meters wide, 72 meters long, but full of lights thanks to the erection of the large stained glass panels on the walls. Moreover, the transformation of natural light through stained glass makes the shimmer, fanciful space for everyone to closer to the God.
